Oppo has recently released the complete security bulletin, which details the Android security patch released for August. The Oppo security patch includes all the improvements and fixes Google made to the Android OS. Among other fixes are two critical and 29 high-risk vulnerabilities that have been fixed in the underlying OS.
The latest ColorOS for Oppo is being rolled out to all compatible devices and should be received by most devices within the next week or so. It is important to note that a lot of Oppo devices receive updates quarterly or bi-annually as opposed to Galaxy devices which receive a monthly update.
The list of Oppo devices which should already receive the August security patch are:
- OPPO F11
- OPPO Find X2
- OPPO A52
- OPPO Reno2 F
- OPPO Reno2 Z
One of the issues that have been addressed with this update fixes an issue where certain users with Oppa A52 could not turn on the personal hotspot in certain situations. This is one of the more serious issues that has been fixed with the latest security patch.
Another issue that has been addressed with the recent ColorOS firmware and security update was bug fixes on the settings and UI of Oppo Reno 2F and Reno 2Z devices.
If you have not yet received the update automatically, you can also manually install the security patch through the OTA or flashing the latest factory image.
Closing words
Oppo devices are quickly gaining popularity, with some experts foreseeing these devices as becoming serious competition to industry leaders such as Samsung. After all, in many cases, they match more established brands in quality but are more affordable. It is nice to see that security releases are happening almost on par with other popular Android devices.
