Microsoft announces the Surface Laptop Studio 2 and Surface Laptop Go 3

Microsoft has launched a refreshed lineup of its Surface laptops. Here are the Surface Laptop Studio 2 and the Surface Laptop Go 3.

Surface Laptop Studio 2

The 2nd gen version of the laptop retains the design of its predecessor, with a 14.4” PixelSense Flow Display. The screen has a resolution of 2400 x 1600 pixels, a pixel density of?200 PPI, a 120 Hz Refresh Rate, a 3:2 Aspect Ratio, a contrast ratio of 1500:1 Contrast Ratio, and 10-point multi-touch. The display has been certified for VESA DisplayHDR 400, and supports Dolby Vision IQ. The panel is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

 

Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2

This is where the similarities between the 1st-gen and the 2nd-gen model end. The Surface Laptop Studio 2 is powered by a 13th Gen Intel Core i7-13700H processor, and an Intel Gen3 Movidius 3700VC VPU AI Accelerator. It comes in 5 memory storage trims with 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB LPDDR5x RAM, and 512 GB, 1 TB or 2 TB of SSD storage.

The base model of the Surface Laptop Studio 2 uses an Intel Iris Xe Graphics GPU, but the premium models are fitted with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 / RTX 4060 / RTX 2000 Ada graphics card. The device has a Surface Precision Haptic touchpad. The battery in the computer and can deliver up to 19 hours of general usage (varies by the model). The battery can be charged via a USB-C port with the supplied charger. The Intel Iris Xe graphics model comes with a 102W charger in the box, while the NVIDIA graphics models ship with a 120W charger.

 

Surface Laptop Studio 2 180-degree hinge

The device runs on Windows 11 Home out of the box, and has some preloaded Microsoft 365 apps. It comes with a 30-day trial for Microsoft 365, and a 30-day trial for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The Surface Laptop Studio 2 has a 1080p Full HD front-facing camera that supports Windows Studio Effects and Windows Hello 2.0 face authentication. The computer has Quad Omnisonic speakers with support for Dolby Atmos, and Dual Studio Mics.

The Surface Laptop Studio 2 supports Wi-Fi 6E: 802.11ax, Bluetooth 5.3, and has two USB-C ports that support Thunderbolt 4. The ports can be used for data transfer, charging and for connecting an external display via DisplayPort. Microsoft has equipped the computer with a standard USB-A 3.1 port, a MicroSDXC card reader, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a Surface Connect port.

Microsoft is also selling some accessories for the new Surface Laptop Studio 2 separately. The Surface Slim Pen 2 costs $129.99, while the Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock carries a price tag of $299.99.

Surface Laptop Go 3

Microsoft has a more affordable option that you may like, the Surface Laptop Go 3. It has a slightly smaller screen, which is a 12.4” PixelSense Flow Display. The screen supports a resolution of 1536 x 1024 pixels,?148 PPI, 3:2 Aspect Ratio, 1000:1 Contrast Ratio. While it also supports 10-point multi-touch, the layer of glass that protects the screen is a Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The Surface Laptop Go 3 is powered by a 12th Gen Intel Core i5-1235U with Intel Iris Xe Graphics, 8 GB or 16 GB LPDDR5x RAM, and a 256 GB SSD. It offers the same experience as the Laptop Studio 2. The machine is backed by a battery that supports up to 15 hours of usage, and charges using a 39W power brick. The front-camera on the laptop is a 720p HD lens. The device features Omnisonic speakers with support for Dolby Audio Premium, and Dual far-field Studio Mics. The Laptop Go 3 has a single USB-C 3.2 port which supports Data, DisplayPort and Charging, a USB-A 3.1 port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a Surface Connect port.
